WHAT are they thinking??!!!

This is our Los Angles Temple...

And, quoting from The Salt Lake Tribune...
" More than 3,000 people swarmed downtown Salt Lake City to march past the LDS temple and church headquarters, protesting Mormon involvement in the campaign for California's Proposition 8. The measure, which defined marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman, passed this week."

I wish I could figure out how to post the video of the people outside the SLC temple... but here is the link:
http://166.70.44.68/multimedia/2008/prop8/index.html

And the newspaper article is here:
http://www.sltrib.com/ci_10929992?IADID=Search-www.sltrib.com-www.sltrib.com

No matter how you feel about us Mormon's, this is crazy to take it out on our temples... our people... there were TONS of other religions that voted yes to restore the definition of marriage, between a man and a woman!
What do you think about all of this???

i say it's all good...record shows that the times in which the church is persecuted in some way or another, are the times baptisms increase tremendously - so bring it on....

but i understand - it isn't very fun or fair...the other faiths are standing up for us though and that is nice for a change..they are so appreciative of our members efforts and contributions...

record shows that the heaviest voting for this prop came from blacks, and Latino's, more so than any one faith.

It is so sad, isn't it!
But we should feel strong that WE are being singled out again.
Truth will always take the beating but it is integrity that will keep us standing.

I have been so upset about this since it started. I was so worried about our members in California. The stuff that is being said is horrific.

I was really excited a couple of weeks ago because I was invited to join a group of people who had a site (invitation only) for humor blogging. I felt really cool because they accepted me into their group. Well as I'm sitting here typing this the tears are rolling down my face. I feel so hurt. I just went to the blog of the lady who founded the group. And her post was about Mormons. The stuff she said was so sickening, hateful and horrific I couldn't even repeat it. She mentioned that she was sad that you couldn't still torture and then burn people at the stake. The absolute hatred floored me. I deleted my membership and wrote her a note. I tried to stay calm but my heart was hurting so much. Why do people who scream about intolerance...have to be SO INTOLERANT? I just don't get it. But it makes me so very very sad.

I am so sure that they are feeling threatened like we felt threatened on rights. But the difference is plain to us when you realize who truly governs this land. The church had to get involved. I saw a video from Elder Bednar telling us exactly what would happen if it didn't. I will give you a blog site if you want to watch that. I know that truth always prevails. That you are going to be blessed because of your efforts. Anger is stirred up by you know who. We are told and warned there would be days like this. We will just have to see where this all goes, but know that we are all on our knees for everyone involved. This will be our issue someday too.

Makes me so sad. I wish they could understand it's not a personal attack on them. And it's not just the LDS church, and it's not that we hate them as they're trying to make it. We're only standing up for our beliefs as they are for theirs. The majority has spoken - twice.

Sorry if this is too long:)
The following quote is by Elder Neal A. Maxwell. It really speaks to all of us at this crucial time:

"Make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions. President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.'

"This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions.

"Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as untrendy and unenlightened.... Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel. There will also be times, happily, when a minor defeat seems probable, but others will step forward, having been rallied to rightness by what we do. We will know the joy, on occasion, of having awakened a slumbering majority of the decent people of all races and creeds which was, till then, unconscious of itself. Jesus said that when the fig trees put forth their leaves, 'summer is nigh.' Thus warned that summer is upon us, let us not then complain of the heat."

In pondering moments last night I picked up the Ensign and read Elder Hales talk from this past conference.

Christian Courage: The Price of Decipleship
answering our accusers in the Savior's way.
His message was wonderful and soothed my concerns. I am so thankful for being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have a living Prophet to guide and direct us.
With gratitude!

I think it's really sad. Just like the people who stand outside of Temple Square in Salt Lake every single General Conference and hold up signs and shout things. I just think those people really need to GET a LIFE!!!

It is truly unfortunate. It wasn't just Mormons either. It is A LOT of people. I think we just make the easiest target because we are large!

Accept the vote people!

Shaila,
A dear friend in California sent me the quote. I don't know if it was part of a talk in conference.
The email said it was a 30 year old prophecy.
Thanks for your wonderful blog!!!!!

I dont understand why they single out one church, when so many supported it.
But check out this quote:

A timely quote for a past talk from Elder Neil A. Maxwell.
