Snakes, oh my!

My son, Devin, has always been into herping (searching for reptiles or amphibians). You can look at his and his cute wive’s blog to see (Dev & Di). Anyway, I guess the tradition goes on… now my younger son enjoys it too. Everyone in our ward is aware of their knowledge in this field. ~Funny side note, one Sunday the bishop was motioning for Dallin to come up to the stand… he needed him to get a SNAKE OUT OF THE CHAPEL! LOL, it was up by the Sacrament table! ~ So, anyway, yesterday Dallin got a phone call from a family in our ward that lives out on the hill by our house. They thought that they had spied a rattlesnake and wanted him to come get it! He went straight over there and found that it was a gopher snake. Gopher snakes are known to imitate a rattlesnake, they can make their head flat, etc… anyway, here is a pic of the gopher snake he caught.

Here are a few pics of Dallin and Katie with the rosy boa...

Merrianne, that cracks me up about your hubby! He is a "HE MAN" kind of guy... he doesn’t look like he would be scared of ANYTHING!!!

I mean... he is a gun guy... and not scared of the X!!! HAHAHA! HE would be scarier than a snake!!!

I was born and raised in Texas! When I graduated from high school I left and went to BYU… shortly after we married we moved to Cali and have been here ever since!

Sarah, NOPE, it wasn’t me that started it although I was going to start one after camp, just been too busy this past few days! I was hoping we could go along with our SS reading assignment and read that section together and comment…. I might suggest that on the blog! I wonder if Debby McEwen started it??? Did you Deb?

Does your son have snakes as pets? Like in the house in a cage? My son wants one and I say to him ... "Let me think about that far like half a second! UMMMMM. NO!" I'm with Spencer on this one! For Sure! You are a great mom. I can just tell. m

Mechelle, at the moment, yes... lol, we have a rosy boa. BUT the cage is in the garage. This is a VERY tame mellow type of snake.

We HAVE had a rattle snake or 2 in the garage before... but, dont think I am dumb enough to do that again!!! YIKES!

A great mom? uh, just a dumb one...

We are sooo afraid of snakes in our house! Don't want to be anywhere near one...that's one reason why I refuse to ever move to Arizona.

I can't believe one made its way into church...I'd freak out!

Freakazoid me out. I am not a snake fan. I was tortured by my brothers while weeding beets in the summer with snakes. I am glad that your son is a better handler of them though.

We were just getting rocks the other day by the river, and a snake was right by my foot. My husband laughed so hard because I moved like lightning.

Your son is very handsome by the way. And that's his wife. I've already forgotten what I read. I am slithering.

Linda, Yep, in the church... DURING Sac. Mtg, crazy, huh??!!! Not sure how long it had been there??? Wonder if it was there when the Priest's were up there? LOL...

Jan, the son on MY blog holding the snake is 17... the girl is a girl from our ward that was over last night with a group of them. I DO have 2 that are married... you can get to their blogs from mine... Derek & Britt and Dev & Di... you are too young to have married kids, huh??

Me and snakes don't exactly like each other. I'm sure they don't like me. I know I don't like them - what am I to do if the boys want to get into this in a few years???????!!!

My son (the one on the mission) loves snakes. When I married Todd, I also married his kids and their critters - including a snake and a tarantula! LOL When I had only been married to their dad for about a month, I found a dead snake in a ziploc bag in my freezer. Apparently Todd and Darren found roadkill and wanted to 'examine' it. They couldn't understand why I wasn't okay with that.

snakes = ew!

Hope that interest doesn't carry on to my boys, but I think it's too late. Jagger has the same facination. That is crazy there was a snake in the church! CRAZY!!

Are ya kidding me?
I don't do snakes. At all. Period.

I was weeding my flower bed recently and pulled these weeds up, and this thing slithered over my hand. I screamed like a little school girl, and ran as fast as I could away from there, waving my arms in the air like a crazy person.

I'm sure it was great entertainment for all the teenagers that happened by at that exact moment!

wow 14 comments (someone's "popular"!). I am glad I don't have more boys around here to gang up on me - if that was Doug he would have thrown it on me or something! Your boys are such "boys"! CRAZY that it was in the church!

I don't play with snakes. I think women and snakes are supposed to hate each other? Something biblical?

Ooooh, those snake pictures are both cool and scary to me at the same time! I get way too scared to actually hold snakes, but they do look awesome to look at them. Your kids are so brave! What really sends me running for the hills is spiders though. I am a HUGE arachnaphobe, or however you spell that. :)

Oh My Gosh! Hi Shaila I found your blog on Deon & Gina's!! Isn't blogging fun? Is this what it means to have boys?? I'm in trouble Roberto LOVES lizards and snakes and I'm sure he's going to instill that in Oliver... and I HATE anything like that... I hope there's a girl in my future! :)

That is crazy about snakes in your church! How funny the bishop knew who to get up there to take care of it. Guess I know who to call if we have snakes!

that picture give me the creeps!!!

WOW, you have some BRAVE kids! I love snakes, but they creep me out. Weird I know, but it's a love hate relationship.

LOL on the snake in the chapel! haha!

My brother has a snake that he rescued from a vineyard, it's black with white stripes & he calls her Victoria. He LOVES his snake and what's cute is when he leaves - she's restless in her cage and the moment he comes home and holds her she sleeps under her piece of wood in her cage all content. It's cute :)

GREAT blog and I love your banner picture!
