ODDS... and ends...

Have you ever been hurt by someone?

Have you ever been hurt by something someone said to you?

Have you ever been sure they did it on purpose?

To TRY and hurt you?

WHY do you think people do that?

On a better note.... Can I just say...
I LOVE TEACHING INSTITUTE??!!!!

What a great group of kids I have. There was 30 there last night. We talked about the 4th watch.... and how the Savior came THEN... (between 3-6 am) just at the dawn, when the LIGHT comes. He IS the LIGHT! Remember Joseph Smith when he was praying and just at the moment of great alarm, he saw a pillar of light??!!! (Joseph Smith History 1:16) We also talked about Peter, the Rock, walking on water.... and trials... I had a big rock I used as an visual. They decided next week I should bring bright colored sharpies and we would all sign it... coz we are a Rockin' group and we have a testimony like Peter.... like a ROCK. The rock will be our mascot! CUTE, huh??? I love them!!!

I like the rock mascot--I think I need to have that for our family mascot. One of my favorite scriptures is Helaman 5:12, it also has a rock in it.

I know what you mean about working with the youth...It's the best! I had the opportunity to teach the 16and 17 year olds in Sunday School and be in Young Womens for years...my most favorite callings ever!

About the first part of your post....there was this lady in our ward...a really nice lady named Vicky...she would say things like "gee I wish I was as thin as you...well I'd want my thighs smaller..." It was so funny because I don't think she knew how it sounded. There were so many hurt feelings from the stuff she said. I always told people...she doesn't mean it..."it's just Vicky" I really believe she had no clue how mean she sounded.

Come and teach me Shaila. I could learn from you. Love the rock and I love their strength. What a blessing.

I think we all have had those times of hurt. It is undoubtly the most hurtful when you know it was meant. Ouch deeply ouch.

Why DO people do that? I can't imagine wanting to do something to hurt someone on purpose. Why would anybody want to hurt someone else?
I'll tell you what hurts the most is when you find out you've hurt someone else unintentionally. That is the worst kind of pain for me.
I think it is amazing that you teach institute! You rock!

sorry if there are hurtful words in your life..

I was just on Jan's site --letting her know that I did get her address and I saw your comment--a shower for 90!! PEOPLE!!!! Hospital duty and a plane ride AND a scrapbook--I am now in a kneeling position--worshipping at your feet--you are amazing!!!

HI! We all say things that are not kind at some point and time. Some say these things intentionally, but other are quite unintentional. Since we are going to be judged as we judge I always choose to believe that people are unintentional with their unkindness. It helps me get over it faster. Sorry you were hurt. Sending hugs your way. m

I'm sorry you were hurt. I don't know why some people have to be mean. I die if I ever accidentally hurt anyone, I can't imagine doing it on purpose. And I really really hate to see anyone's feelings hurt, it makes me sad.

So glad you have such a good time teaching institute. Your class is cute and so are you.

I have no idea why people hurt other people-I just think they must be miserable inside so in the end I end up feeling sorry for them and praying for them -Fogiving them.
I don't have such a hard time if someone hurts me-I'm super fogiving but when someone (like a adult) hurts my child this is a real hard one for me-Breaks my heart. So many people have no idea what words can do to a person.
Great photo :)

The only answer I have to your questions the same old thing you tell your kids when someone's mean: They think that making you smaller helps them feel bigger. They're insecure most likely envious of you in some way.

But it is NOT fun. I've been there, too, and it was really hard. I'm one of those people who can't stand it when someone doesn't like me. (Vain, I know.) But it's still hard.

I didn't know you taught institute!! What a wonderful thing for you. We had an AMAZING institute teacher back home - said something once that changed my life. Seriously. "It's possible to fall in love with someone you're not supposed to marry."

And prop 8 - looks like I'll be contacting CA voters and providing a little education about it. I haven't got any info yet, but it's coming.

Ah yeah, they do that because they are freakin' jealous of me! You know it!

but, the thing that gets me is that I allow their hurtful words to get to me! Really, do I care? sorta, i wanna be liked by all.

the ones who hurt the most are when family members do the attacking. I could really care less if they are acquaintances. I usually just get mad and let it go but family remarks tend to stick a little more!

Really, seriously, DO NOT give anyone the POWER to hurt you. You have that choice!

Man- I truly wish I could be in your institute class. You are just amazing & I know you have so much for me to learn...

Haven't we all been hurt by someone? But my thing is - Sure you might be hurt by someone from church. But what the heck do they have to do with your Salvation? Why do people stop going to church when they've been hurt or offended. Their just hurting themselves & their family. Hello!!!
My husband used to say. The church is always True but the members can be dorks!
The Church is true & perfect. It's just that all of us as members are trying & usually don't even realize they may have affended someone.
Ya know what I mean?

Glad you are loving your group...sounds like you had their attention and they were "into" what you were talking about.

As for what people say...I am currently very hurt because it seems I am the butt of alot of my inlaws jokes. I don't know what I have done other than "stand my ground" on how I feel.

Happy Thursday!

like a good friend once told me .... IT'S NOT YOU!! whomever is CHOOSING to hurt you is doing it because they are not happy with themselves. I hope it's not who i think it is ... makes me angry that ANYONE would be rude or hurtful to my Shaila! and can i enroll in your institute class ... long distance education style?! You are soooo good at sharing and explaining the gospel principals!!! xoxo.... see ya at the airport!

I hate it when people are mean. I try to not let it bug me-- but sometimes it does. I'm sorry someone hurt you. Should I go throw eggs at their blog? (if they don't have one, then I will happily egg their house!)

Can I just say you have my dream calling? I would love to teach institute! Your kids are LUCKY!

Oh lucky! I have often thought about getting a pass and just taking the boys and flying there for the day. That would be fun!

I enjoyed your post so much today! Loved the Rock mascot and also have a great love for the Young Single Adults. In fact we have a fun Hayride/Games and yummy fall dinner with about 225 of them in just over an hour. This is our very fun and busy calling of serving on a regional Level.
Concerning being hurt which has happened to me too many times I ahve learned something over the years. I usually ask myself if I am taking offense when offense really wasn't intended and try to look on the true intent of the person's heart who made comments which could be taken wrong.
Then there have been direct comments which were meant to be mean, then again I wondered what was going on in that person's life to make them say such unkind things, and I leared to start to pray their hearts to soften and mine to heal. Most of all prayed I would not become bitter. Because they usually forgot the misdeed immediately while I held on to the hurt far too long.
Serving for 5.5 years as a Stake R.S. President and praying each day for the love of the sisters in our stake to grow helped be to have a tougher skin by learning to love the ones the most who were the HARDEST to love.
Opps! Sorry this was sooo long!!!!!

Wow Shaila. I'm a little riled up about this - you go about your life doing such wonderful things - I really do think it's jealousy. I will never understand intentionally hurting someone. I like to tease people and joke with people but it would kill me if I ever hurt someone - intentionally or not. I'm sorry this happened to you. If you want, I'll take 'em out back for you. I could send Guido after them.

You're a good person.

I bet they love you as the institute teacher..you are always alot of fun!! It was good to see you the other night at the shower.

Jealousy- pure and simple. If someone else isn't happy and they see that someone else IS, then for some sad reason many choose to TRY and destroy that. Kinda like the one who didn't follow the plan. Let it slide - don't let that person take anything more from you. You may never understand, and that's okay. I find it easier to not waste my precious time worrying and wondering about it, but instead realize it's THEIR problem and not mine.

I would love to be in your tute class - that would be so fun!

what a great lesson!! I would have loved to have been there!!
I love those deep, interesting, thought-provoking, "let's discuss this for hours" types of lessons and discussions. What a great experience!!
